Reading List
One of the best parts of being in the Million Dollar Solution has most definitely been reading a great deal of wonderful and inspiring books. Many of these books were recommended to me by members, or by mentors like Bill Hammond. Below, please explore some of my favorites (in no particular order). They cover everything from personal nutrition to marketing and come highly recommended. Let me know what you think, or if you have any books you recommend! - Julie
The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks
The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks is a truly powerful novel. We all have things that hold us back, but often times we don't recognize them or know how to stop them. The Big Leap teaches you how to identify your fears and self-imposed limitations and how to leave them behind. Members have told me that they think about its lessons even years later.
Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek
I highly recommend Leaders Eat Last for anyone who wants to improve the culture and atmosphere of their office. It will teach you how to lead in a way that produces loyal, happy employees and an atmosphere of mutual support, inclusion, and productivity. Such an atmosphere is crucial to the success of any law firm.
Scaling Up by Verne Harnish
Scaling Up is chock full of strategies and information that you can use to grow your business. I reference it frequently and each time I do so, I am amazed by the wealth of insight it provides. Focusing on four pillars: People, Execution, Cash, and Strategy, it outlines the practices of industry-leading firms. You can download a free chapter here.
The Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande
Atul Gawande is a fantastic author (you'll hear me reference his books fairly frequently). In The Checklist Manifesto, Gawande explains that while industry innovations and technological advancements have generated great progress, they have been unable to prevent avoidable failures. Regardless of how efficient we think we are, we are bound to experience failures. He argues in favor of a simple method to avoid this: the checklist. The book is thought provoking, masterfully written, and can help you improve not only the functioning of your firm, but of your daily life.
The Wellness Project by Phoebe Lapine
When Phoebe Lapine was only 22 years old, she was diagnosed with a thyroid condition that left her feeling perpetually tired and ill. This prompted her to begin a year long journey to answer the simple question: Why don't I feel well? Her journey covered all aspects of health - she examined everything from the products she used to the way she managed stress to the amount of alcohol she drank. Her book describes this yearlong journey and is a fantastic read for anyone looking to improve their health and their relationship with food.
